Video Demo: New AI copywriting tool in Squarespace!

Squarespace released a new tool that uses AI to help you write your website copy. You can find it in the text formatting bar in your site. Watch video demo below 👇

Hey there, Savanna here with Knapsack to demo a new Squarespace feature. Recently, they rolled out the ability to have AI help write your text content, so I wanted to show you how it works. Initially, it wasn't great when it was released, but after a couple of weeks, they made improvements, and our team is finding it really useful. We wanted to share it with you in case you find it helpful as well.

To start, I'm going to delete the text I have here. You'll see a little lightning bolt icon on the left of the text block menu. It's Squarespace AI, and it's still in beta. So, if you click on it, you'll get a couple of prompts. These prompts work well from what we've tested, but you can also type in your content without a prompt.

Squarespace's built-in AI prompts include:

  • Write a paragraph about...

  • Write a sales pitch about...

  • Craft a persuasive argument about...

  • Write a list of pros and cons about...

Using a Custom Prompt to Generate a Headline

For example, in this case, I'm working with a make-believe local florist website. I want the AI to help me come up with ideas for free downloads. You'll have to provide some prompts similar to ChatGPT, where you give it information about your audience. I'll say, "Write a title for a free download that would be helpful for florists," and then we can generate.

It was actually very fast. The generated title is "Floral Arrangement Guide: Tips and Tricks for Stunning Centerpieces." I would say that's pretty great. Click insert and it will drop the copy into the text box for you. You can generate different ideas as well, and if you don't like one, it will provide a new option.

Testing Squarespace's Built-in Copywriting AI Prompt: Pros & Cons

It's not just for brainstorming; you can also use it to write different website copy. If you're starting from scratch, add a text block, click the lightning bolt, and again, the prompts are interesting. Let's select the prompt for creating a pros and cons list. You can mention what you want your services or offerings to be compared to. In this instance, it's a comparison between a local floral shop and a grocery store vendor. Provide enough information so it can be helpful, and then click generate.

This one might take a bit longer because it's usually a lot of text. In the last example, I asked for a title, but this time we're getting a list. We typically recommend clients keep the content bite-sized and easy to digest. The AI will probably give you more than what you need. You can always bring it into ChatGPT and ask, "Hey, can you consolidate this into a paragraph?" Let's see what it generated.

Okay, so I have three pros and cons each. From a design standpoint, we would probably want to display these side by side. The pros are affordable prices, convenient location, and wide variety. You'll need to tweak them to make sure they make sense for your business, but for my fictional business, this is great.
