Add an Announcement Bar in Squarespace
Why You Need an Announcement Bar on Your Website
When someone lands on your website, you have just a few seconds to grab their attention and guide them toward what matters most. While strong design and clear messaging are essential, sometimes you need a way to highlight timely updates without disrupting the flow of your site. That’s where an announcement bar comes in.
An announcement bar is a slim banner that sits at the very top of your website. It’s subtle enough not to overwhelm your design, yet bold enough to stand out and immediately communicate a message. Think of it as your site’s headline ticker: always visible, always easy to update, and perfect for delivering the right message at the right time.
So why would you want one?
1. Promote Special Offers and Sales
If you’re running a limited-time promotion, discount, or seasonal offer, the announcement bar ensures every visitor sees it right away. Instead of burying that info in a blog post or a page footer, you can spotlight it in the most high-visibility spot on your site.
2. Share Important Business Updates
From holiday closures to new hours of operation, an announcement bar makes it easy to keep your audience informed. You can quickly add, edit, or remove messages so visitors always know what to expect from you.
3. Drive Traffic to Key Pages
Whether you’ve launched a new service, published a resource, or opened up a waitlist, your announcement bar can serve as a simple, clickable call-to-action. Direct visitors to what’s new and important with one clear link.
4. Improve the User Experience
Instead of visitors digging around to find critical updates, the information is right there at the top of the page. This saves them time and keeps your site experience smooth, professional, and trustworthy.
5. Keep Your Website Dynamic
A static website can start to feel stale. Updating your announcement bar regularly signals that your business is active and engaged. It shows visitors that you’re present and responsive — qualities that build trust.
At the end of the day, an announcement bar is a small feature with a big impact. Whether you want to highlight promotions, share time-sensitive news, or guide visitors to a new offer, it’s one of the easiest ways to keep your website fresh, functional, and focused on what matters most.
