6 Reasons to Switch to Squarespace

It’s no secret that here at Knapsack we’re big fans of the website builder, Squarespace. We’ve built every one of our 500+ sites using Squarespace with no plans of stopping.

But what makes it a good fit for our clients? Why do we recommend it to so many and how do you know if it’s right for your website?

In this article we’ll provide 6 reasons to switch to Squarespace.

1. You want a low-maintenance website

Squarespace is an all-in-one platform, which means your website, hosting, site security and more, are all included in your subscription. That also means that you do not have to manage external plugins, widgets, or software updates like on an open-source platform like Wordpress.

It’s pretty common that business owners come to us with a Wordpress site looking to make a switch because their site is too much to manage and maintain. Plugins break or widgets need updating.

One client said to me recently it feels like a full-time job just to make sure their Wordpress site stays up. While Wordpress offers ample flexibility and is a great option for so many, we wouldn’t recommend it if you want a site that is low-maintenance.

2. You don’t want to worry about security issues

One feature we love about Squarespace is your SSL certificate is included with your website subscription.

If you’re wondering what an SSL certificate is, it’s what makes your website secure (the little 🔒 next to your URL). For my techy friends, it stands for Secure Sockets Layer and it authenticates websites, establishing an encrypted link between a server and a visitor.

It’s common with other website builders that you need to purchase your SSL certificate separately, install it, and ensure it’s up-to-date, which can be an intimidating task for busy business owners.

3. You need to easily grow your website overtime

If you own a small business, chances are your business will change and evolve overtime. Maybe you need to add a new service page, or launch an online course, or build out that blog you’ve been meaning to start for a while (we’ve been there! See our blog on 8 ways to use Chat GPT in your business 😉).

Squarespace makes it easy to do all of the above and more. There’s a built-in blog page, shop page, and events page. You can also integrate a membership portal, email marketing, a calendar scheduler, and more.

4. You want the option to make edits yourself

Squarespace’s editor is user-friendly and intuitive, making the learning curve less steep than other platforms like Wordpress. It’s also worth noting the interface is simplistic and beautiful, if that matters to you (like it does us).

Many of our clients are able to make small updates themselves. Even if you're not a tech whiz, you can still do things like change text, swap out an image, and add a new blog post.

5. You need an affordable up-keep option

If editing your own site is not your thing or you've hit a busy season in your business, it’s helpful to have an affordable support option.

Since most Squarespace sites aren’t built with a ton of coding or external plugins (at least that’s our approach!), you’ll likely be able to hire a designer at an affordable rate to make updates for you.

Our support plan is just $99/month where we include small updates each week. Often the price tag starts to increase when you need to hire a developer (someone who handles the coding and programming) to make updates to your site.

6. You want a beautifully designed site (on desktop and mobile)

While you can get a beautifully designed site with many website builders like Wordpress, Wix, and Webflow, we think Squarespace has a leg up with it’s beautiful templates and flexible design editor. From our perspective, you can get a beautiful website for less time, effort, and money with Squarespace.

Additionally, the platform is responsive, meaning it automatically adapts to different screen sizes, ensuring that your website looks great and functions well on various devices. You can also edit the mobile view independently now using the new editor, Fluid Engine.

Well there you have it! We hope this is helpful as you determine which website platform is best for your site.
